About Mongo

We were born a Twin (that being reference to the month) in the year of the Monkey in St. Agatha, Belgium, which is a Brussels ‘burb. Dad was a Tech Rep with MAAG Belux and Mom a newlywed with a nursing degree, both just getting to know each other. We spent about a year in Brussels before Dad got transferred to Germany, only, with Mom being a Dutch citizen, that didn’t work out so well. Dad had an unhappy moment and said “Fine. Back to America!” So, off we went.

A couple of siblings were wrought out, one a brother and the next a sister. Went to school, made good the escape in 1974. But not before Dad’s heart had a couple of major malfunctions, one of which took him from us in June of 1973. We were numb.We knew not what had befallen us, but we knew it sucked.

A week after the Great Escape found a hapless youth of eighteen summers out to get one of them fancy buzz cuts down at the Recruit Depot for Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children. We did our time, we paid our fine, and we went our way. A mixed bag of tricks was learned along the way. Since then, life has been an adventure of proselyting in a far away place, raising the education level a tad here and there, traveling to wonderful places where English is spoken but a little, exploring the recreational and professional wonders of the Naval Air Reserve, and gaining a lot of life experience as a Simple Servant with the Department of the Navy.

Computers and Real Estate. Oh, to be free of them sometimes. But, they are now part of our life. We sail from time to time, enjoying the simple pleasures of wind as motive force. Such activity is highly recommended, and does the soul much good.

Single. No spin-offs, that I’m aware of. We search for The One from time to time, but we are not anxiously engaged as are some. We have learned that to live anxiously can be fraught with foolishness, and, thus, we are patient. We seek, and we shall find. For so it is written.

So ends this introduction. No fancy quote from some dead guy. Just “See ya!”

PS About Mongo. There’s this guy, see. A former coworker with a mischievous sense of humor. He saw this goofy movie with this goofy character, saw the goofy character and said “Hey! I work with that guy!” Thereafter we were known as Mongo. We like to believe it was because of a love for candy, but, from time to time, we are left to wonder.

Mongo, Congratulations on your blogging start!

Good bio. I had wondered about the nickname all those times I enjoyed your comments over at Lex’s place.

Looking forward to more, like some of your long-distance sailing stories. I remember you mentioning some of them from time to time.

Good luck with the new venture. As I was reading the following parts of your bio I thought “hey, that describes me!” I manage a computer network for a Real Estate company. I’m single with “no spinoffs” and I just took up sailing recently, which is one of too many hobbies.
